Hello all,
I have just gotten back into knitting about two months ago, and have just joined this community. I have just finished my first shaped project, a stockinette beanie for my mother. I wish to make my father a similar one for his birthday, but I have a few problems to over come before I can even pick up the needles.

1. My father is allergic to synthetic fibers, so I need to work with a natural fiber.
2. He hates wool, which cuts out a whole bunch of great looking and feeling yarns.
3. He is a "manly" man, and while will wear a beanie made by his daughter, it does need to be a darker color (i.e. no pink/purple/girl-y/baby colors).
4. I would like to work with a variegated yarn in the "manly" color range. This is a would like, not a necessity like the things mentioned above.

So, I turn to you, oh knowledgeable knitters, to find a yarn that will meet all of the above necessities. Thank you!

In MAC products, I am NW20, but I want to try Bobbi Brown's creamy concealer. What shade in BB would be the equivalent of NW20 from MAC foundations?

Also, for the people who do use BB face products, what do you think of them? I looked at a recommendation Marlena (makeupgeek) made and I'm interested, but I want more than one opinion.

Hey!

soo I’m going to the Dominican in a month. Ive never been anywhere ever, and never been on a plane. I don’t want to put my makeup in my checked luggage..id much rather have it on my carry on, but ive heard a lot of ( sometimes conflicting ) information regarding the whole checked luggage vs. carry on thing. My main concern is obviously having my makeup broken, lost or stolen. I read a whole ‘pack your mac’ tutorial thing on how to put toilet paper and bubble wrap and all that stuff. My concern is whether or not the custom people are going to take everything apart to look at it. Obviously if its in my carry on I don’t have to worry as much about packing it, I would still pad my quads so my eye shadows don’t crack but I wouldn’t worry about bubble wrap and tape and all that.. I would like to put all my makeup and my makeup brushes in my carry on. I know I can’t have liquids bigger then an ounce, and that all my liquids have to be in a ziplock bag. So I could put my mascara, fluidline and lipgloss’s in a zip lock bag with small bottles of my studio fix fluid and that would be fine right? I am worried about keeping my brushes on me because I heard someone once saying that her makeup brushes were taken away because they were considered a weapon. SO my main question I guess would be, what should I do with my makeup?

other quick smaller question.. is there such thing as foundation/makeup that wont melt off my face in the heat? im really worried about how im gonna work makeup in the dominican.
ive tried the soothing care monistat chafing gel stuff as a primer.. doesnt make a difference.

any advice would be great.

thanks so much.

hi guys, would really appreciate some help! :D

im using mac studio fix powder plus foundation / mac lightful pressed powder as foundation, and i really need a primer otherwise i think i have to make frequent touch ups. am wondering if there's any good primers out there that would make my powder makeup last longer? mac or non-mac, it doesnt matter! would love to hear all your opinions, thanks so much! :D

also, i bought triple fusion msf from colorcraft today! :D any other recommendations/must haves?

thanks!! :D

I'm looking for a WWII era knitting pattern for shooting mittens. I remember finding a site with tons of patterns from that time period, but I've lost the link and my google-fu is failing me lately.

I really want to make some of those mittens for my husband since he's deployed to Afghanistan and it gets really COLD there in the winter, heck it still gets cool at night even in the summer. So yeah, help?

So I noticed that the MAC site has started doing this "out of stock - ships soon" thing... I've been watching a product for almost 2 weeks now and it still says that.
Anyone have any idea what "soon" is? I live pretty far from a store (in another city) and I usually just order online.. But I'm impatient so I don't want to wait a month. lol.

ALSO!

Favorite MAC bronzer? I'm pretty pale (NC15-20ish) And I'm considering Golden. I don't mind shimmer, although I would rather not have tons of glitter. Thank you!

Very proud of these pictures. I haven't figured out exactly what I want yet because I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the excitement of a (huge) new collection. I definitely liked Made With Love. The MSFs and mineralize blushes are very sparkly (with the exception of satin-finish Sunny By Nature and shimmery Porcelain Pink).

If there's any question I didn't answer here or you want larger pictures (or you just want to show me some love), please visit http://karlasugar.blogspot.com

I recently posted two polls about this hand:

Synopsis: you 3-bet red aces from the button in the limit holdem round of a HORSE tournament. Your opponent then goes limp, check-calling the flop and turn. On the river, the board is 7s Jh 9s 3h Td. It's checked to you.

The thing that strikes me most about this hand is that my opponent capped the betting out-of-position before the flop, and then went limp-- he check-called to the river. I asked what hands he might do this with. The results of the poll:

AA: 16%
KK: 16%
QQ: 26%
JJ: 13%
TT: 48%
99: 16%
88: 35%
77: 13%
smaller pairs: 32%
AK: 77%
AQ: 61%
AJ: 13%
KQ: 32%
some other hands: 29%

Some of these answers just don't make sense to me. If I assume that my opponent is at least a little bit rational, he's going to put in a bet at some point with AA, KK, QQ, JJ, and AJ. To me, check-call mode means one of two things-- a decently strong but possibly beat hand, or a monster that you're trying to trap with. AA, KK, and QQ are certainly going to put in a bet or raise at some point. I think smaller pairs will scamper away by the turn.

Given the way the hand played out, the candidate hands seem to be AK, AQ, TT, or maybe 88. He could also have flopped a set and is hoping to get me on the river, but slows down when the fourth straight card comes. Of those hand, the only ones I'm ahead of are AK and AQ. Do they pay me off? Sometimes, but far from always.

What hands check raise me? TT and 88, and maybe a few other sets. I don't think I get check raised by anything that I'm ahead of.

Basically, I think the hand comes down to hoping my opponent has AK or AQ. I might have considered a bet over the table, where I had body language to guide me, and I might have considered it in a cash game with linear-value chips. In this situation, it felt wrong to me.

So my analysis comes down to this: I don't think AK and AQ pay me off often enough to make it worth stepping in a mine against the other hands. The only caveat I'll put on this analysis is that I haven't played much limit holdem in the last several years, so my limit analytical skills are rusty. And yes, I might be out of touch with what a typical limit player would do.

By the way, I'm amused that only five of you thought that KK and QQ cap then go limp, but 14 of you include KK and QQ in "What hands play this way, then pay you off if you bet?"
